Bird
Watching...More
than 50% of
bird species in North America are found in southwest New Mexico and
southeast Arizona. The Peloncillo and
Chiricahua "Sky Island" mountain ranges flanking the Rodeo valley
harbor many bird species unique to the area. Found in the
immediate area of Casa Adobe B&B are White-Tailed Kites, Whiskered
Screech Owl, Bendire's Thrasher, Cactus Wren, Cassin's Sparrow,
Harris's Hawk, Golden Eagle, Red-Tail Hawk, Great Horned Owl, Red-Wing
Black bird, Scaled Quail, Gambel's Quail, Ground Owls, and many more.
New
Mexico's only documented Black Vulture was photographed here in 1996. To

Chiricahua
Mountains...Experience the magic and
grandeur of the Chiricahua
Mountains, spectacular
Cave
Creek Canyon, Chiricahua
National Monument, Rustler's
Park (at 8600+ feet), and pristine Rucker

Peloncillo
Mountains...The Peloncillo Mountains offer
hikers
solitude, spectacular vistas, and a highly diverse range of habitat for
observing numerous
species of flora and fauna. Click HERE
to learn more about the natural heritage of the Peloncillos. A good
hiker's entry point to the Peloncillo Mountains is Owl Canyon located
just a few
miles southeast of Rodeo and Casa adobe B&B. The trail is primitive
(no signage, water or facilities of any kind) and watch out for those
pesky rattlers and flash floods in the summer monsoons. Visit the Geronimo
Surrenders Monument near Apache about 12 miles south of Casa Adobe
B&B
along Old Highway 80. This is also the access point to Skeleton Canyon
and reported Conquistador
buried treasure (Learn more HERE). Skeleton Canyon
is also where many infamous
outlaws like Johnny Ringo and the Clanton brothers sought refuge
from justice. The canyon has a colorful but violent history and one
historian has commented that over 100 humans lost their lives here, and
that this canyon is haunted. (Submitted
by Harry & Ingrid McNeer). |

Chiricahua Desert Museum...Visit
the new Chiricahua Desert Museum
just two miles north of Casa Adobe B&B at the "Corner". They are
still so new that they do not yet have their official website up yet,
but HERE
is their FaceBook page. The museum features informative natural history
displays, live exhibits of local reptile species, gifts, fine art and
much more.

Astronomy...Rodeo and the surrounding
area is one of the darkest
deep-sky sites anywhere and astronomers
from around the globe congregate here to take full advantage of our
great climate and near-perfect observing conditions. Many area
residents have sophisticated observatories that can be operated from
anywhere in the world via the Internet. A great example can be found HERE.
But you really don't need a million dollar instrument to be awestruck
by our night skys ~ just bring yourself and a good pair of binoculars
and you will not be disappointed.

Landscape
Photography...The Sky Islands and
surrounding desert biomes offer a diversity of photogenic landscapes.
Click HERE for a few examples. From

undiscovered. Casa Adobe offers the perfect launching point for you
daily photographic forays. Recruit one of our local guides to show you
some of the best hidden locations. |
UFO Watching...Yes, you read that
correctly! ~ We've seen them and we
are not alone! Don't believe us? Just speak to some of the

Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP)...Report #1: Feb.
19, 1951; Rodeo, NM: USAF? C-54 pilot saw a green flare
[fireball?] pass his plane. (BBU
Sparks, Project 1947; FUFOR Index); Report #2: September 25, 1965;
Rodeo, NM (Blue Book Unknown 39971): It is 10 pm and witnesses

their car for approximately six minutes. |
